Event Description

Mountain Chalet's free fall event series continues as the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) offers a 90 minute presentation on avalanche awareness and safety in the winter backcountry. The program is designed to help backcountry travelers understand the risks associated with avalanches and what is necessary to manage those risks. They will help explain avalanche danger, what defines avalanche terrain, and some basic steps for reducing avalanche risk in Colorado's mountains. Remember that for daily snow condition reports, you can call the free local CAIC avalanche hotline, sponsored by Mountain Chalet:

Sorry you can't make it, Roland. Unfortunately, Mountain Chalet probably won't offer another one until next year some time, but the CAIC website has a list of more upcoming events around Colorado if you're able to head to one in Golden, Denver, Boulder, or elsewhere beyond the Springs. http://avalanche.state.co.us/pub/edu_cal.php (Click on the agenda tab for easy viewing.) Usually the Pikes Peak Alpine School also offers some local avalanche education events, but I wasn't able to find any for this season. Good luck and stay safe out there!
