The 2010 Pikes Peak Ascent is set to go at 7 a.m., Aug. 21. Some 1,800 runners will toe the line in Manitou Springs to begin a 13.2-mile run to the summit of 14,115-foot Pikes Peak. This year's race promises to be one of the most competitive in recent memory. The World Mountain Running Association has selected the Ascent as its World Long Distance Challenge race this year. Some of the top mountain runners in the world have entered the race.
Spectators can drive to Devil's Playground on the Pikes Peak Highway (you'll have to pay the toll fee) and then catch a shuttle van to the summit to see the end of the race. Be there by 9 a.m. to see the top runners finish.
