About 225 runners took on one of the toughest 5K courses in Colorado in the Brain Booster 5K (aka Running for Rachael) at the Air Force Academy. Gerald Romero captured the win in 19 minutes, 52 seconds, while a newcomer to Colorado Springs, Adrienne Hutchison, won the women's race in 24:10.
Romero won for the second-consecutive year.
The Brain Booster 5K is a fundraiser for Rachael’s Ribbons of Hope Foundation, which helps fund research to battle brain cancer.
The race is ran in memory of Rachael Newton who died five years ago at age 14. She began the Ribbons of Hope Foundation while she was undergoing treatment.
