It was another great morning for running in Colorado Springs as about 350 runners sprinted down Tejon St. in the annual Sailin' Shoes 5K and 10K. Adam Rich, 33, a former Wasson High School track and cross country runner, won the men's 10K with a time of 32 minutes, 27 seconds. Emilio Trujillo (22, Colorado Springs) was second in 34:05, followed by Brent Bailey (27, Simla) in 35:38.
In the women's race, Sarah Guhl, a Cheyenne Mountain High School grad who is entering her senior year at Baylor University, took the win for the second-consecutive year. Guhl, 22, hit the finish in 42:55, followed by Sharon Jacob, 46, Colorado Springs, in 45:52, and Kacy Pittman, 35, Colorado Springs, in 45:54.
Geifry Tere, 37, Colorado Springs, won the men's 5K in 15:34. Matt Levassiur was second in 15:53, followed by Steve Chu, 31, Colorado Springs, in 16:08.
Olivia Long (28, Colorado Springs) captured the top spot in the women's race in 19:15. Amanda Ewing (33, Colorado Springs) who is training to run the Leadville 100, was second in 19:31, a stride ahead of the tough and fast 50-year-old Sheila Geere of Colorado Springs.
