There were many age-group winners from Colorado Springs in Saturday's Rock Canyon Half Marathon in Pueblo. But the biggest performance was turned in by 22-year-old newcomer James Burns, who won with a time of 1:13:21. Burns recently moved to Colorado Springs and is training to become a professional triathlete. He may have a bright future. The Rock Canyon half was his first race in the area.
"I was just using it as a training run," he said.
The fastest woman on the course was Stephanie Jones, 40, of Colorado Springs. However, the race filled before she could enter and she was not credited with an official time. Jones, who placed second this year in the Leadville 100, said she ran about 1:28.
Laura Mortimer, of Denver, was the official women's winner. Air Force cadet Caitlin Lynch placed second.
