Melanie Fryar, 30, of Greenwood Village captured the top spot in the Greenland Trail 50K on Saturday with a time of 4:03.30, or an average of about 7:51 per mile over 31 miles. Fryar, who is also a member of PikesPeakSports.us, led from the beginning and gradually built an advantage that helped on the last lap when had to walk on some of the course's hilly sections. "The hills get harder every 5 or 10 miles," she said. Fryar was a member of the U.S. 100k team that competed in Spain last fall. She hopes to earn a spot on the team this year.
