A two-time member of the US Mountain Running team, Josh Eberly won the Black Canyon Ascent on Saturday, May 14, 2016. Eberly charged up the six-mile road course - gaining about 2,000 feet in elevation along the way - in 41 minutes, 23 seconds. He had no plans of competing in the event until the night before when fellow mountain-trail runner Pete Maksimow convinced him to give it a try.
"He pinged me up and a I had a beverage with him and he said, 'Black Canyon Ascent tomorrow.' I said well, I'm doing a workout so I might as well give it a shot."
Eberly coaches trail running at Western State Colorado University.
