One of the top runners in the country, Joe Gray won the Winter Series III short-course (five-mile) race on Saturday in Monument. Gray and James Burns, the series leader, battled for four miles before Gray was able to find a purchase on a snow-covered course and pull away to win. Gray finished in 27 minutes, 52 seconds. Burns finished a few strides behind in 27:58. Simon Gutierrez was third in 31:00. Shiela Geere clocked 35:52 to capture her third win in as many Winter Series starts and set an age-group (50-54) record. won for the third consecutive time in three Winter Series starts. Hannah McIntyre, 18, was second in 38:51, followed by Thea Ramsey, 16, in 39:40.
