Brittni Hutton, 24, of Colorado Springs, had never run a marathon. She had never run farther than about 14 miles. But on Monday, she surprised herself and many others by dashing to the win in the American Discovery Trail Marathon in Colorado Springs. Hutton took the lead with about four miles to go and finished in 2:57:25.
"I just went for it," she said. "I told myself, 'I can do this, I can do this.' That was the only thing, I think, that helped me survive."
Kristina Louderback, 32, of Denver was second in 3:01:02, followed by Heather Utrata, 32, of Greeley, in 3:02:18.
