The Pikes Peak Marathon is known for it's high-altitude challenge with runners ascending to the peak's 14,115-foot summit before returning to Manitou Springs. But the warm August sun took it;s toll on everyone, including women's winner Anita Ortiz, 50, of Eagle, Colo. Ortiz hit the finish line in 5 hours and 54 seconds, then found an ice pack for the hot sports. She also set an age-group record for the ascent, covering the 13.32-mile climb in 3:11:05. The win was her second in the marathon. She is a four-time winner of the Pikes Peak Ascent.
