Allie McLaughlin of Colorado Springs had always dreamed of racing on Pikes Peak, the 14,115-foot peak that was practically in her back yard. She made the best of her first attempt. Running for team USA in the World Mountain Running Long Distance Championship, McLaughlin won the 2014 Pikes Peak Ascent in 2 hours, 33 minutes, 43 seconds. Her time is the third-fastest by a woman in race history.
