About

Tim Bergsten created this Ning Network.

All weekend I was Thinking about a long run. Thinking though doesn't get me any further along the training continuum. So late Sunday I snatched the few hours of weekend that were left and headed for Barr Trail. With just a couple of "honey do" stops between my house and the trailhead I thought I'd still get a good workout in before dark. I was partially right.

I took off from Ruxton at 6. Hit shuffle on the IPhone and cranked the tunes. I've recently synced my home computer with my I phone so I was eager to get some taste of long lost songs from the archive. Pushing against the tourist foot traffic heading down hill, I quickly felt a sense of strength coming from my obvious contrarian direction. I also noticed that the sun was headed generally downhill as well.

Knowing that there are Only a few weekends left, I had to use every minute and then some. Top of the W's in about an hour. Upward.

My seriousness didn't last long. The new albums that synced to my phone also included Veggie Tales, Old McDonald and The Wheels On The Bus. Nice mix! I actually kind of enjoyed the juxtaposition of Dave Matthews "Satellite" along side "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star."

Once I hit No Name Creek I figured I might as well push for Barr Camp. The sun was disappearring now but hey... Most of my way back was down hill right? Barr Camp: 2 hours.

I turned around and headed for home realizing I had miscalculated how long I'd actually be able to see the trail. It was 8:15. Strangely I felt the need to call home. "Sarah, I'm on my way down but it's going to be a while yet. Don't worry, I'm not dead. Love you."

Then I picked up a rock in one hand (in case I needed something to throw at the attacking mountain lions), turned on the flashlight app on my phone and listened to the strangest mix of music.

Ah, Winnie the Pooh, maybe that's the secret to conquering Pikes?

Glad you made it back down safely Aaron. Running in the dark with that Winnie the Pooh song would have scared me more than any wildlife though!
