About

Tim Bergsten created this Ning Network.

Over the past 5 or so years of running I have learned a few things. Unfortunately, it seems like I need continuous reminders of those lessons. Lately I've been coming back to consistency. This has been on my mind because like most of us, I am forced to work a regular job and have other distractions. I also know from experience that the next month and a half leading up to The Ascent are extremely important. I have been working to make sure that I get my training runs in. Unfortunately it hasn't been consistent.

The plan is to go back to the training runs and habits that have made me successful in the past. I am planning on a heavy doses of Ute Pass and El Diablo in Bear Creek. If you have not run Ute Pass to Longs Ranch Road and over to Barr Trail either through the Experimental Forest or where Bob's connects to Barr it is a kick in the pants. The closer you get to the top the harder it gets. I am usually reduced to some serious hiking over the last 2 miles or so but it is great training for the sections of the course above the bottomless pit sign. What it lacks in altitude it makes up for in incline. It is also pretty empty and you do not run into many people. Which is surprising considering it begins next to the incline. If you do go, take a good map or course description and lots of water!
There are two big races coming up for me in the next few weeks. This year will be my first time running The Summer Roundup. I'm excited because quite a few people have told me that this is their favorite race in The Triple Crown! The following weekend is The Barr Trail Mountain Race. This has been a favorite of mine since I first did it two years ago and now that it has been taken over by the Pikes Peak Marathon it should be even better.
Hope to see you all out there!
