With the beginning of the Triple Crown Series only nine days away, I was torn between working through lunch or working out at lunch. I chose working out mostly because my wife told me to work - I like to push her buttons.
The Garden of the Gods 10 Mile is June 12th (7 a.m.). Are you signed up? You should be. It's one of the best races in the country according to Runners World. More than a 1,000 people will hit the road and romp their way through one of the most beautiful places on earth.
Today I saw Pikes Peak Sports Teammate Lee Rhodes on Ruxton Ave. on his way down from a run up to Barr Camp. The guy is an inspiration. The whole team is really something. Check them out! Last weekend I saw Alexis out in the Garden, getting in a six mile "cool down" while I was struggling through the course for the first time. If nothing else, our team is committed to running this thing! It's a quirky since of commraderie when you see someone you know out on the roads or trails. Like you're buddies even if you don't know alot about each other. You share a common enemy and that makes the fight all that much better.
Today was a perfect day to run. Maybe it was seeing Lee on the road up to Barr Trail or knowing that the Garden of the Gods 10 Miler isn't flat that motivated me to get to the top of the W's and back before my lunch break was too far gone. Luckily I work at the bottom of Ruxton Ave. so I can run right back to my office, jump in the shower and be back at my desk before anyone knows I'm missing.
I'm contemplating challenging some of the students to come on a run with me. It might be too much for those flatlanders, but hey, their teenagers - they can hang right? I know I need more motivation to get my training on a consistent level. I haven't been able to get my tail out of bed or else I'd run with the Pikes Peak Road Runners or with Amy's usual suspects (thanks for the invite Amy!). I wonder if I'll ever get over this challenge of discipline and have running become a non-negotiable like so many of my new friends?

Thank Tim!
Amy, I don't know if I can even make my body get up that early - let alone be at the site, have clothes on and make one foot step in front of another. It's a recipe for disaster. I'll see you all Sunday!
Aaron, I don't think you were struggling, you looked pretty fresh!
I hope you have the Reese's waiting when I finally finish the Garden 10 miles.
And Brandon. it takes me a lot longer to get it all done, so I just seem to be everywhere. Me and the energizer bunny, we keep going and going.... I am not fast, just stubborn.
