Race week is finally here! I’m excited to see what all this training yields on Saturday when I race the Ascent. This will be my 8th attempt in either the Pikes Peak Marathon or Ascent. I’ve had less than stellar results in the past. I was never able to race to my level of fitness during the first 6 attempts before finally having a breakthrough in attempt #7. As a…

I recently came back to work after 4 GLORIOUS weeks off. My family and I go anywhere during this time but enjoyed the Pikes Peak region and all that it provides. Most of my family tends to be the sleeping in type so this provided me some extra opportunities to travel for some of my runs in the early mornings. I found myself in Manitou Springs….a lot. I love this little town and it was a perfect place to be as I'm training for the Pikes Peak Ascent and the Run Rabbit Run 100 miler. In my…

My biggest takeaway from today's Summer Roundup 12k....my cheering section rocks!!!!! My entire family was out there along with friends and it helped me to execute a very solid race. My cheerleaders are the primary reason for it so thank you all!!
This was the 2nd leg of the Triple Crown of Running. It's the shortest of the 3 races but not easy by any stretch of…

It's Summer Roundup week. To me, this 2nd leg of the Triple Crown of Running is the hardest of the three races. It's the shortest but I feel packs the biggest punch. As daunting as the Pikes Peak Ascent is, it's done at a lower intensity level. At my age, the longer stuff that has more aerobic running is much more in my wheelhouse. The Summer Roundup is just hard the whole way. High heart rate, punchy climbs on loose footing and congestion makes this a personal sufferfest. The course has…

I love to know what makes people willingly get out for this brutal 10 miler. It’s not going to feel good. We know that. It’s not going to give you a 10 mile PR with it’s tough terrain. It’s not going to be an “easy” day for those that plan on showing up for “just” a training day. That being said, why on earth are you running it? I’d love to hear some of your reasons. Others stories inspire me and keep me close to the…

Hi, my name is Neal and I’m a recovering triathlete. So I thought. 2015 turned into a transitional year for me on the athletic front. I was set to race Ironman Texas a couple of weeks ago but some financial dings made it so Ironman wasn’t in the cards for 2015. I altered my schedule and put some endurance events on my calendar as that’s just a part of what keeps me going. I’ve wanted to do a 100 mile ultramarathon for over 10 years…
