Colorado Springs triathlete Michi Weiss finished eighth in the Ford Ironman Triathlon on Sunday in Tempe, Ariz.
Weiss finshed the 140.6 mile course in 8 hours, 21 minutes and 36 seconds.
His splits were: 2.4-mile swim in 54:04; 112-mile bike 4:24:05; and 26.2-mile run 2:59:02.
Weiss posted the following to his Facebook page after his race: "Today I'm proud that I pushed through & finished 7th or 8th. Huge step towards Kona. It's been a long season - I need a break!"
Eneko Llanos of Spain won with a time of 7:59:38.
In the women's race, Amanda Stevens of Colorado Springs placed fourth with a time of 9:09:39, about 20 minues off the winning pace of Leanda Cave of Tucson, Ariz..
Stevens posted split times of 48:43, 4:51:51 and 3:23:45.
