The fast husband and wife team of Ken and Christie Foster took the wins at the inaugural America the Beautiful 5K on Friday afternoon at America the Beautiful Park in Colorado Springs. Ken charged over the flat course in 15 minutes, 45 seconds. Christie finished third overall and won the women's race with a time of 18:34. About 50 runners registered for the inaugural race, which ran in conjunction with the Olympic Celebration in downtown Colorado Springs. Race organizers say they'll add host a marathon and half marathon to next year.
Jessica Kleven, 16, was second in the women's race with a 20:41, followed by Lyndsay Hyman (21:09). James Burns finished second (15:57) and Adam Truex third (19:49) in the men's race.
