Scott Nagelkerke posted the best time of all area runners at the Boston Marathon on Monday, finishing in 2 hours, 46 minutes, and 27 seconds. He was 395th overall in a field of 25,000 runners. Brooks Williams was second-fastest of the locals in 2:49:37 (550th overall), followed by Tim Allison in 2:56:18 (1,047th).

In the women's race, the Air Force Academy's Anne Marie T. Sibal, was quickest in 3:02:24. She was the fourth best from Colorado and placed 1,805th overall. She was followed by Colorado Springs runners Erin Fitzpatrick at 3:22:48 (5,648th) and Missy Ross in 3:33:13 (8,562nd).

The best from Colorado was Boulder's Franklin Tenorio, (19th, 2:17:56) and Nan Kennard (185th, 2:38:12).

In the elite race, Desiree Davilla of Michigan came up two seconds short of becoming the first American to win the Boston Marathon since Colorado Springs resident Lisa Rainsberger did it in 1985. Davilla ran 2:22:38, but could not beat Kenyan Caroline Kilel who hit the finish line in 2:22:36.

Kara Goucher, who placed third in 2009, finished fifth in 2:24:52.

The top four runners in the men's race went where no other Boston Marathoner has gone. They all beat Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot's 2010 course record 2:05:52.

Kenyan Geoffrey Mutai won in a race record 2:03:02, outlasting his countryman Mosos Mosop who crossed in 2:03:06. Gebregziabher Gebremariam of Ethiopia was third in 2:04:53, followed by American Ryan Hall in 2:04:58.
