Paul Mann, 34, of Colorado Springs, is always among the leaders in area races. On Saturday at the Alex Hoag Run for Sunshine 10K, he won one.
A powerful runner with the physique of a basketball power forward, Mann (left) hit the finish line in 37 minutes, 43 seconds. He was followed by Mike Stephens (28, Colorado Springs) who finished in 38:22. Max Davidson (15) was third in 38:33.
In the women's 10K, Jesse Mortensen (25, Colorado Springs) ran away with the race, posting a 40:48, nearly four minutes better than Amanda Garcia (31, 44:43). Janna Habeck (34, Colorado Springs) was third in 48:56.
Some of the fastest runners along the Front Range battled in the 5K. Carl Arnold, a Wasson High School graduate who has earned All-America honors as an 800 and 1,500 runner at Metro State College in Denver, won with a time of 15:04.5.
Jay Luna, a 2002 Fountain-Fort Carson High School grad who currently runs for the Boulder Running Company, was second in 15:13.9. Cody Hill, 38, Colorado Springs, owner of the Boulder Running Company's Colorado Springs store, was third in 15:39.
In the women's race, Tera Moody (right), of Colorado Springs, who is training for the 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials, blasted the field with a 15:54. The 30-year-old Boulder Running Company/adidas team member was fourth overall in the 5K.
Adrian Chouinard (27, Manitou Springs) was second in 17:11, followed by Julianne Payton (21, Woodland Park) in 17:21.
The proceeds from the Alex Hoag Run for Sunshine 5K run/walk go to the Proteus Syndrome Foundation.
