PikesPeakSports.us, Triple Crown of Running reach sponsorship agreement

PikesPeakSports.us
is happy to announce a new sponsorship agreement with the Triple Crown of
Running
, including the Garden of the Gods 10-Mile Run, the Summer Roundup Trail Run, the Pikes Peak Ascent and the 55th Pikes Peak Marathon.
“It’s smart to use social media to help us build community around our races,” said Ron Ilgen, president of Pikes Peak Marathon, Inc. “To be able to reach those specifically interested in running in and supporting our races is important. PikesPeakSports.us will help us do that.”
PikesPeakSports.us is a social media website, like Facebook, for runners, riders, hikers,
climbers, and all who strive to live a healthful lifestyle. The site was
launched earlier this year by Tim Bergsten and Brian McCarrie, local runners
and riders with extensive experience in social media and building digital
communities.
“These races are a part of our summer traditions, community events that define who we
are,” McCarrie said. “This partnership makes perfect sense for PikesPeakSports.us because we’re in the business of building and supporting our outdoor community.”
The Garden of the Gods 10-Mile Run is slated for June 13. More than 2,000 runners
are expected to participate. The 7.4-mile Summer Roundup Trail Run, which
begins in Bear Creek Park, will go on July 11. This year it is a part of the nation-wide Trail Runner
Trophy Series.
The Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon, Aug. 21-22, have added importance this year for national and international competitors. The Ascent will be a part of the World Mountain Running Association Long Distance Challenge, which is essentially the world championship of mountain running.
The Pikes Peak Marathon will be one of five major international races in the 2010
Skyrunner World Series.
PikesPeakSports.us currently has more than 360 members. The site features photos, stories, blogs, video and events added by its membership.
“This website is a 100-percent grassroots effort and it is 100-percent local,” Bergsten said. “It’s important to us to be involved in the Triple Crown of Running. We like to say PikesPeakSports.us is for all of us. The Triple Crown events and the Marathon are a part of our community, a part of us. We’re proud to lend our help.”
