PikesPeakSports.us is happy to announce a new sponsorship agreement with the 10th American Discovery Trail Marathon slated for Labor Day (Sept. 6). The race begins in Palmer Lake and ends at America the Beautiful Park in Colorado Springs,
where runners and spectators will enjoy a celebration.
An Expo also takes place on Sunday at Antlers Hilton, so runners can enjoy festivities throughout the Labor Day weekend. ADT Marathon race director Sara
Wulfkuhle said the PikesPeakSports.us digital community will help the race reach those who are interested in running and supporting the event. Wulfkuhle also likes the website’s community-first approach, and said, “The grassroots feeling of PikesPeakSports.us fits with our race.”
Nearly 1,100 runners competed in
the ADT Marathon or half marathon last year. About 125 of those participated in the four-person marathon relay. Runners can register for the races at
Active.com.
PikesPeakSports.us is a social
media website, like Facebook, for runners, riders, hikers, climbers. The site was launched in February by Tim Bergsten and Brian McCarrie, local runners and riders with extensive experience in social media and building digital communities.
“This is our kind of event,”
Bergsten said. “We’re committed to and focused on creating community and supporting these events that define Colorado Springs.”
The ADT
races are ran on the fast and flat Santa Fe Trail. The marathon course is a Boston qualifier and mostly downhill, losing about 1,300 feet of elevation. In 2009, Justin Ricks’ winning time of 2 hours, 32 minutes, 30 seconds, was the fastest marathon in the world on that weekend. The half marathon starts at America the Beautiful Park
and follows an out-and-back course.
Marathon relay team members will run legs of 6.75, 8.5, 6.75, and 4.2 miles.
The marathon and half-marathon have been designated as RRCA State Championship Races for 2010. There will also be cash prizes of $500, $250 and $100 for the top three male and female finishers in the marathon.
