Hundreds of runners from across the Pikes Peak Region will unite to honor Boston with a tribute run Monday, May 6.
Following the tragic attacks at this year’s Boston Marathon, an outpouring of support came in from members of the region’s active running community and its supporters. Dozens of running and community organizations came together to coordinate the effort, giving runners the opportunity to say,“Boston, we’re with you!”
Many of the victims in the marathon bombings were spectators and supporters. A one-mile walk will recognize those who support the sport. Runners can cheer on those who are usually cheering them, by inviting family members and friends to participate in the walk. Runners will then take off on a 5K out-and-back run.
All finishers will sign a giant card to be sent to the Boston Athletic Association, honoring Boston, its runners, its community and those killed and injured in the April 15 attack.
Runners and walkers are encouraged to wear Boston-related clothing, or red socks (Red Sox), to show their support. There are no fees or official sponsors. Donations will be collected for onefundboston.org.
Event organizers expect upwards of 1,000 runners and walkers to participate.
The Boston Marathon is held the Monday of Patriots Day, and the Monday date honors that tradition.
