The Pikes Peak Community Foundation is adding a fun run to the mix this fall.
The inaugural Agony and Ecstacy Run is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Aspen Valley Ranch in Woodland Park.
Cost is only $10 and registration is open at RunReg.com. Online registration closes at 6 p.m. Sept. 22.
The Aspen Valley Ranch is owned by the Pikes Peak Comunity Foundation and offers workshops and events focused on arts, music, culture, and sustainable living skills to Pikes Peak-area citizens and vistors. With a goal of improving the quality of life in our community, the ranch is sustained by local energy, people, and resources.
The following is from Bob Small of the Pikes Peak Community Foundation:
The 5.5-mile course begins at an elevation of 8,500 feet and consists of dirt roads and trails. With a vertical gain of 1,110 feet it can be extremely challenging.
"I am calling this a 'trial” run as we are looking for feedback on the course," said Bob Small of the Pikes Peak Community Foundation. "It is an old fashioned fun run to simply get a good workout and be with others who enjoy running."
There will be no awards for the fastest runners, but each participant will receive a wooden aspen leaf as a memento of the inaugural event. The race will be timed and results will be provided. But the idea is to have fun. Small encouraged runners to enjoy the course, become familiar with the ranch and to stop along the course and take photos.
"For those who want to stop at one of the high points for a photo opportunity there is a beautiful Paul Hathaway sculpture called the “Ecstasy Statue” at about 9,600 feet," he said. "I think you will find this a great workout and an experience not to be missed."
More information will be available on our web page in the coming week including a few pictures. However, registration is now live on RunReg.com.
