Cody Hill rolled to the win on Saturday at the Max Silver Little Dipper Fun Run 5K at Cheyenne Mountain High School.

The manager of the Colorado Springs Boulder Running Company store crossed the line in 19 minutes, 6 seconds.
It was by no means, a huge win. There were about about 64 runners in the race. But Hill (at right with daughter Sydney) said the event still had great meaning.
“This was fun,” Hill said. “It was tough, but this is the kind of run I grew up doing. It has a more personal meaning. Sometimes I’d rather do this kind of run than a huge production.”
Max Silver was a Cheyenne
Mountain High
School cross country runner. He died in a drowning accident on Dec. 1, 2007. The race is a fundraiser for the Little Dipper Pool and the Maxwell Silver Fund, which helps support the Southwest
Writers Institute at Fort Lewis College.
Casey Powell, who was a cross country runner when Silver
served as team captain, won the women’s race for the third-consecutive year.
But the day wasn’t really about winning races. It was about participating in an event dedicated to a young man who was famous for making people smile.
“He had an incredible sense of humor,” said Chase Nowak, a
friend and teammate of Silver’s. “He made running fun. He was just entertaining.”
Silver’s mother, Mary Stark, said it was a “Max day.”

“The sunrise was beautiful,” she said. “I think Max and god
painted the sky for us. The parents, teachers and people he ran with, ran for, and ran away from were all here. He was a crazy, fun kid and I can’t wait to see him again.”
