Army Cpt. Kelly Calway of Manitou Springs placed fifth in the California International Marathon on Sunday in Sacramento, California.
Calway, 26, posted a time of 2:42:19 and qualified to run in the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials, Jan. 14, 2012 in Houston.

Calway has had a productive fall season. She placed second last month in the Army Ten-Miler, a prestigious race that included a field of 30,000 runners. Read Calway's Army Ten-Miler interview here.

She had set a goal of qualifying for the trials at the California Marathon.

Justin Ricks (left) of Pueblo West, a Wasson High School graduate, finished 14th in 2:22:43, missing the men's Olympic trials qualifying time of 2:19. He still has a year to hit the qualifying time.

Only two American men, Coloradoans Justin Young and Tyler McCandless, ran under the men's Olympic qualifying time. Young, of Superior, placed fifth overall with a time of 2:14:07, while Boulder's McCandless finished 6th in 2:17:22.
