Local Pike's Peak Area Runners Conquer the Seattle R n' R Half Marathon

My wife and I go to Seattle every summer to visit our very hospitable family members.  We have also added running the Seattle Rock and Roll Half Marathon to our yearly trip.  Last summer was our first R n' R in Seattle and the experience was memorable with a very well organized race, a fantastic couse and scenic views with Bald Eagle siting last year to top off the experience.  The course is relatively flat with a overall elevation gain of 448' (nothing compared to the recent Garden 10 mile race).  My wife and I have been training for the Triple Crown so a half marathon isn't exactly the kind of race we were prepared for.  We both had extra pre-race jitters not knowing what to expect from our "re-tooled" muscles and cardio, better suited for a altitude trail run than a road race at sea level.  I set a lofty goal of trying to run sub-eight minute miles for the entire race.  Sonal was planning to exceed her time from last year but was concerned that pushing it in this race may set her back in the rigorous training plan she had laid out for herself.  My Garmin was a sub-eight at 7:57 average pace and a distance of 13.33.  The official distance was a true half so my race timing and planning was slightly affected.  Race conditions were overcast with temps in the 50's - perfect summer running weather!

While I missed my goal by just a bit, I couldn't have asked my body for more:
