A youth movement broke out Saturday in the men's race at the Run for Rwanda 5K at Cottonwood Creek Park.
The Seventeen-year-old Josiah Valenzuela captured the win in Run for Rwanda 5K on Saturday at Cottonwood Creek Park.
Valenzuela covered the course in 17 minutes, 52 seconds. But he had two from his generation chasing him. Zachary Alhamra, 14, placed second in 18:18, followed by George Smith, 16, in 18:27.
In the women's race, you have to tip your hat to Rochelle Persson, 43, who prevented a teenage sweep.
Persson, the leader in the Colorado Runner Series master's division, clocked 19:43 to take the win. Shelby Stableford, 17, was second in 20:16. Lauren Hamilton, 15, cross the finish line in 21:00 for third place.
