James Burns stayed in the lead pack through the first mile of the Oktoberfest 5K, then tapped into his speed reserves and pulled away from a talented field to win in 15 minutes, 26 seconds. Michael Weiss was close behind in second (15:46), followed by Dan Vega in 16:36. Laurie Eastup, 27, won the women's race in 22:14. Karen Lundin finished second in 23:06, with Kristen Barner clocking 23:17 for third place. The race is part of the Oktoberfest Celebration weekend hosted by John and Carol O'Donnell, the longtime producers of the Grand Prix of Running.
