Get by with a little help from your friends in American Discovery Trail Marathon relay

If you want to run in a marathon event but can't muster the 26.2 miles by yourself, consider forming a four-person relay team and jump into the 11th annual American Discovery Trail Marathon, Sept. 5 in Colorado Springs.
Each year the relay competition grows bigger as runners gather their friends, family and co-workers together and throw down in a fun and friendly competition.
There are categories for men's, women's and coed teams, and anything can happen in the relay. In 2009, the women's team of Amy Regnier, Ashlee Nelson, Elizabeth Watkins and Connilee Walter was the fastest of all, finishing in 2 hours, 56 minutes.
The marathon relay will begin at 6:45 a.m. (the marathon begins at 6:30) in Palmer Lake. Leg distances are 6.75, 8.5, 6.75, and 4.2 miles.

Important info for relay runners: It is extremely important that you all have your driver's license on you when entering (by car) the Air Force Academy exchange zone. Your driver must be a relay team member for this exchange. This is due to heightened security. The list we give them will be the relay runners only!

With elite athletes, nationally famous races, miles of trails and 5K fun runs on almost every weekend, Colorado Springs is a national hot spot for running. The American Discovery Trail Marathon is a big part of that culture.
The course is fast. Beginning at Palmer Lake and ending at America the Beautiful Park in Colorado Springs, it loses about 1,185 feet in elevation along the way.
And the ADT Marathon is a great choice for runners who need a Boston Marathon qualifying time. It's the last marathon in the area before Boston registration begins on Sept. 12.
There is also a half marathon option on an out-and-back course that begins in America the Beautiful Park at 6:30 a.m. Race proceeds benefit the Trails and Open Space Coalition.
