Front Range Fat Ass series wraps up Saturday with 50k Ponderous Posterior in Colorado Springs

This was written by local ultra runner J.T.

The final run of the Front Range Fat Ass series will take place on Saturday, January 15th. No rules, no entry fee, and no whining allowed.

The run will start and end at 321 North 31st Street in Old Colorado City. The course will show you some of the best trails our area has to offer, including the Garden of the Gods, Williams Canyon, Waldo Canyon, Longs Ranch Road, Barr Trail, the Intemann Trail, and Red Rock Canyon. It will be minimally marked, so it would help if you knew where you were going or ran with someone who did.

A description of the 50k course can be seen here: http://antonkrupicka.blogspot.com/2010/11/ponderous-posterior-50k.html

There are other distances offered if you don't feel like running 30+ miles. You can follow the course and cut down Williams Canyon into Manitou and back to Old Colorado City (15ish miles). Or you can head back to Manitou via the Ute Pass trail after running Waldo, skipping out on all the wonderful climbing on Longs Ranch (24ish miles).

If you need anything at an aid station, a truck will leave for the Waldo Canyon trailhead parking lot after the last wave of runners takes off. You are welcome to throw a bag in the back. Other than this minimal aid station you need to bring anything you need to complete the distance.

We'll be using three start times, 7AM, 8AM, and 9AM. The 7AM start may be delayed if anyone needs to sign up for the San Juan Solstice.

I'll have lots of PBR at the house after the run, if you want anything else you'll have to bring it yourself.

That map is the JV route - 26 miles.  You're just cutting out Longs Ranch Road and the Barr Trail.
