Colorado Springs runner Connilee Walter won the women's race at the Colorado Marathon on Sunday in Fort Collins, covering the 26.2-mile course in 3 hours, 3 minutes and 20 seconds.
Walter, 38, a mother of five, finished 26th overall in a field of 986. She is sponsored by the Colorado Running Company.
The Colorado Marathon is one of the fastest marathon's in the country, with a course that flows downhill through scenic Poudre Canyon for nearly its entire distance.
Two-time U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier Connie Nielsen, 35, of Omaha, Neb., finished second in 3:04:59. Macy Latter, 30, of Fort Collins was third in 3:08:41.
Fort Collins resident Steve Folkerts, 38, charged away from the field to win in 2:29:20, about more than 10 minutes ahead of second-place finisher Zach Crandall of Fort Collins. Phil Latter of Fort Collins was third in 2:41:05.
