Casey Powell defended her title at the Max Silver Fun Run again on Saturday.
She is the only woman to have won the race in its four-year history.
Powell ran cross country at Cheyenne Mountain High School. Silver, who passed away in 2007, was a cross country runner at Cheyenne Mountain High School and team captain when Powell was a sophomore there. She said he keeps coming back to the race to support Max's mother, Mary Stark, and to hang out with her old friends.
"It's the people," she said. "I really loved running for Cheyenne Mountain. Max was a really good captain, so I love to support the family and everyone. It's a fun time."
The race is a fundraiser for the Little Dipper Pool, where Max was a lifeguard, CASA of the Pikes Peak Region, and the Maxwell Silver Fund, which helps support the Southwest Writers Institute at Fort Lewis College.
Cody Hill won the men's race for the second consecutive year. Hill ran the final steps of the race with his daughter Sydney, 7.
"We come out and do it because it supports a good cause, also for Max and his family here."
Hill said he'd return next year and try for the three-peat.
"Of course, now that's I've put that out there, somebody will probably show up," he said. "But it's always fun because I tell my daughter that if I'm winning she can run through the chute and break the tape first."
Rachel Richards, a University of Denver law student, finished second in the women's race. Josh Fowler, a junior at Cheyenne Mountain, ran second in the men's race.

Friends and former classmates of Max Silver had a little fun on Saturday at the Max Silver Fun Run at Cheyenne Mountain High School.
