For junior high and high school cross country runners, summer break brings with it not just time away from school, but also time to make big gains for the upcoming season.
Now in its third year, the Colorado Springs *FREE* Cross Country camp will begin on July 29th and run through August 2nd. Although organized by UCCS cross country coach Mark Misch, the day camp has no school affiliation, and invites runners of all ability levels from ages 10 to 19. Last year attracting around 80 runners from around the state as well as from the Kansas and Missouri areas, the camp has grown in size each year from 2011.
The free-of-charge camp takes place for 3-4 hours each evening at North Monument Valley Park beginning at 5:30 p.m. each day. Each session will feature a workout, instruction on drills, strides, and core work, lessons in biomechanics, footwear, and nutrition, guest speakers, trivia, games and prizes.
