Murphy's Law has seeped into the iron-clad planning behind the Ascent Cycling Series mountain bike race slated for Saturday at Palmer Park.
Race director Andy Bohlmann said he'll need course marshals on race day. To
volunteer, call Bohlmann at 651-1677.
He needs three people who can be at the park from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., or
six who can work half-shifts.
The organization that had planned
to provide the course marshals is experiencing difficulty filling the positions.
Volunteers should bring water and be prepared for Colorado's crazy weather (the forecast looks
good...for now.) Lunch (sub sandwiches) will be provided to volunteers.
Plan to meet Bohlmann at the northeast corner of the parking lot at the corner of Maizeland and Academy at 8 a.m. He'll be the guy firmly in command, dressed in an orange vest and keeping
things lively on the PA.
This is a great way get in on the local racing scene, which is growing quickly.
Bohlmann said pre-entries for this race are as high as he has experienced for a
spring event.
I'll be working with the marshals out on the course for the Saturday race. They can come w/a bike to ride to their positions on the course or can hike in if that works best. There is auto access @several points along the way.
We definitely appreciate anyone who is able to volunteer to put on this first race of the season here in Colorado Springs...I *heart* volunteers!
