Colorado Springs' Kelli Emmett captures silver medal at USA Cycling Marathon Mountain Bike Nationals

Colorado Springs pro mountain bike racer Kelli Emmett has added another national medal to her collection.

Emmett, 34, finished second in the USA Cycling Mountain Bike Marathon National Championships on Sunday in Bend, Ore. Pua Mata of Anaheim, Calif., captured the gold, while Boulder's Heather Irmiger, the 2010 marathon champ, won the bronze medal.

Some 207 riders in 14 categories posted finishing times after racing more than 50 miles on a course that included singletrack, doubletrack and pavement with technical sections sustained climbs and fast descents.

The silver-medal finish is Emmett's third in national championship events this year. She also placed second in the Super D and All-Mountain competition at the USA Cross-Country Nationals at Sun Valley Idaho in July. Emmett is a two-time Super D national champ and won a world singlespeed championship in 2007.

In the men's pro race Kalan Beisel (ProCycling) finished eighth in a field of 41 finishers, covering the distance in 3:23:40. The hometown crowd  had plenty to cheer for as Bend riders Adam Craig and Carl Decker sprinted for the gold. Craig won in 3:10:16. Decker rolled in 14 seconds later. Sam Schultz of Missoula was third in 3:20:50. Other Pikes Peak-area riders who placed well include Mark Gouge of Colorado Springs who won a bronze medal in the men's master 50-59 category, while Kelly McGrew (Colorado Springs) finished eighth.
