Event Description

Summer may seem weeks away, but it is not too soon to invite migrating hummingbirds to settle in your back yard.   By mid-April, the tiny birds are returning to Colorado Springs from their wintering grounds in Mexico.  To attract the birds to your yard or deck, put feeders out in mid-April.  Tie red ribbons to flutter in the breeze and attract the birds to your feeder.   To learn more about hummingbirds, plan now to attend the 19th Annual North Cheyenne Cañon Hummingbird Festival on May 12th from 10am to 4pm at the Starsmore Discovery Center in North Cheyenne Cañon Park.  The event will feature expert speakers on hummingbirds, a plant sale featuring plants that attract hummingbirds, children’s entertainment and activities, a silent auction, guided bird walks, and refreshments.  Also a series of live bands. The festival is free but donations are encouraged for all funds go to support events and park trail safety and maintenance through The Friends of Cheyenne Cañon.  Starsmore Discovery Center is located at 2120 South Cheyenne Cañon Road.  Parking and bus shuttle transport is available at Cheyenne Mountain High School, 1200 Cresta Road 80906. Questions? Call the Starsmore Center at 385-6086.
