Does anyone know what is happening at the Barr Trail parking lot this week? They are closing it off to all vehicles for a week starting tomorrow (Monday).
Couple of day ago I did it about 32 from where the parking lot trail meets the incline, need to time that first trail also. With any luck I will get under 30 this year. Would love to get some people together and do it, if anyone's interested let me know.
Hey Dieter,
Good to have you aboard! That little trail from the lot to the ties is right at three minutes for me. Timed it several times. I wasn't pushing, but I wasn't dogging it.

Take it easy.
The UpaDowna Incline Happy Hour is Thursday nights. There's no set start time but I think most people shoot to be at the top around 6 and then show up around 7 at Kinfolks. I'm always later than that but make it out about half the time.
I love the incline! Just did it yesterday morning... my best time is 39 minutes last summer, I am hoping to break past that this year and get a new personal best!
A group of friends of mine would take their best times and then stagger the starts off of the best time. So if my best was 35 and yours was 40 I would have to start 5 minutes behind you. This puts everyone at the top at the same time.
I cant make the UpaDowna this week but I will make a point to join you guys next week.
I love watching the sunrise from the incline, it draws me back again and again. This is how I celebrate life, birthdays, holidays and how I will celebrate on Mother's Day again this year
.
That's pretty cool, Rob. I was probably one of the last people to ride in an Incline car...that was probably in 1985 or 86...can't remember for sure. I think I climbed it for the first time in 1990. Something like that. Hard to tell, but based on this view of Manitou and Old CC, I'd say late 50s/early 60s.
I remember riding the Incline for a school trip when I was probably in 3rd or 4th grade which would have been in the late 70s. I also remember riding it with my family sometime later. I went through my Mom's old photo albums but couldn't find any photos. My Dad has boxes and boxes of slides which may be where there's some of our family but it could days to locate them. My Mom also gave me a couple postcards that are most likely from the mid 50s but I've misplaced them somewhere.
Made it today just under 30 from the top of the parking lot trail. My partner and I run the first 1/2 down barr trail and take the incline down the rest, did the whole loop in 56!
Awesome Janis! Basically, have fun! Take your time and focus on one step at a time! Take some hydration and snacks, also a rain jacket or something warm just in case. At the top, it can get windy and when you are sweating and you hit that wind at the top...brrr! Also, take some time to stop, pull off to the side of the stairs and really enjoy the view! (small camera works well too!!) :) Watch out for gravel that covers the rr tie, it can be slick. OK that's it I think! haha again, have a blast! Most people get addicted to it after the first go! Enjoy!
When the incline was running you could take your bike on it ($2 for you, $.50 for the bike which took up two seats!). Then we would ride up to Barr Camp and ride down. What a great intro to mountain biking!
Ok so who's doing the Incline this weekend and when...I'm doing it again so in case I'm dying on the side I just want to know someone will be there to help me LOL....Hoping to get back to my normal time of 40 or better yeah! Have a great Friday!
hey! I say all of us 40-45min people get together and do the incline! I need people that are my pace, not my hubby who runs up 50 steps then waits for me!!! :(
I agree! If you were thinking this weekend I've got a double header tonight starting at 6 so tonights out for me, tomorrow morning I'm running course for Garden of the God so I could do it in the afternoon - Sunday might be good....OR I can do it after work one night - I'm off of work at 5 and next weekend is good anytime BUT Friday - softball again LOL...
I'm good w/either time - If we do 5:30 I'll take off a few minutes early - pick a time and I'm there - meeting at the bottom of the incline I assume LOL
I hear the Barr Trail parking lot will be closed again on Mon/Tues, which means even more crowded parking than usual down below on those days. Rumor has it they are paving the lot, although I haven't read the postings at the trailhead, so I can't say for sure.
I'll see you this Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at the bottom of the incline - I'll be the crazy person running from Memorial Park in Manitou up to meet you LOL
Cool! I'll probably start at Kinfolks and jog up ruxton. Can't slack off before the Ascent! :P If we miss each other somewhere, let's just start at the "no trespassing" sign on the incline...if anyone else wants to come feel free! 6pm! (40-45 min pacers only!! hehe)
I'm heading up the incline tomorrow (5-26) morning if anyone wants to join me. I will probably start heading up Ruxton around 6:30. Start time can be adjusted if necessary, I just don't like going to late. I will have my dog with me!

I found this old postcard of the old Manitou Incline cable car. I'm guessing it's from the 1960s. Anybody else have any other thoughts on when it's from. You can see a little more about it here.
