  • Christi Keiser

Hi everyone! Is anyone doing Ironman Kansas 70.3?
  • Cory Morlock

Hi Christi! Guy McPherson, Paula Fries and I are all doing the Kansas race this year.
  • Christi Keiser

That is great! How is the training coming along for you guys? This will be my first HIM and I am a little nervous. But I am enjoying all the hard work that comes with the adventure!
  • Cory Morlock

the training is going great. Like you said, it's a lot of hard work, but it's definitely fun. This will be our first 70.3 too, so we're not quite sure what to expect. At this point, we're all just hoping to have a great time and finish.
  • Brian McCarrie

Good luck with Ironman Kansas guys. I'm training for the Harvest Moon triathlon here in Colorado in Sept. It's not an official Ironman but it is half iron distance. I did this same race 10 years ago and finished in 7+ hours. (It was a terrible day, I won't go in the details.) Going back to this race this year to redeem myself. Good luck with your training! I'm looking forward to the updates.
  • Cory Morlock

Thanks Brian. Good luck with your race in September. Do either of you know of any open water swimming opportunities coming up in the next couple months? Any word if Prospect Lake will still be open despite the recent budget cuts?
  • Christi Keiser

    Good Luck Brian!!

Lisa, my coach and who does the Splash n Dash, has said that Prospect Lake will not be open this year. The budget cuts have killed it! That really sucks. I think I will be heading some place up North for OWS.
  • Brian McCarrie

I know there is a splash and dash series planned for Prospect Lake starting in June. But I guess that all depends on the budget cuts.
  • Brian McCarrie

That sucks about Prospect Lake. I wonder if that impacts the State Games Triathlon as well. These budget cuts are really starting to get on my nerves!
  • Cory Morlock

I know T2 Coaching out of Fort Collins is planning on having a couple open water swims in May, in advance of their Pelican Fest Triathlon. If anyone wants to road trip, we could car pool up there sometime to get in some extra swimming.

Anyone know if Cherry Creek Reservoir has OWS?
  • Brian McCarrie

That's a great idea Cory. If it fits my schedule, I'm in.
  • Christi Keiser

I would love to but I don't think it is going to fit into my schedule. Bummer!
  • Dan Boucher

I would be willing to travel/carpool north for some OWS.
  • Scott Carmack

Getting ready for Tri the Creek on June 5th. Is anyone else entered? It would be fun to cheer each other on or celebrate the finish together.
  • Scott Carmack

I'm planning a Saturday ride - an out and back from Cook Communications (Woodmen & Rangewood) to Calhan. It is round trip 55 miles. Anyone intereted in tagging along. I plan to head out around 5:30am from the parking lot on the NE side of the building.
  • Scott Carmack

Stay Tuned...Weather is supposed to stink on Saturday. I'll play it by ear as to the ride to Calhan. Please stay tuned. I will post by 5:00 A.M. as to whether we will ride. I'm a fair weather kind of rider!
  • Scott Carmack

Update: No long ride tomorrow. going in for a swim instead. Will try it again in another week.

Who is interested in improving Endurance and Recovery?
  • Mark Maloney

I try to run, bike and swim daily, but have never entered a triathlon. Looking for suggestions as to a good one to start with. I live in Monument so for now I'd like to start with something in the general area. Any tips would be very much appreciated.Thanks. Mark
  • Nicole Odell

Hi Mark - there are a lot of good tris here in Colorado for beginners. almost one every weekend within a couple hours drive. The season is winding down, but there are still a few races this season. Did you want to race this year? Drop me a message if you have more specific questions - be glad to help you out.

Nicole, I plan to visit your sites at the earliest opportunity to determine if there is a fit.I have run many races, but triathons are a brand new game for me. If one fits I might consider giving it a shot this year. I just wanted to thank you for your comment, and may well take you up on any questions I might have. Mark
  • Lynne Fonda

Here's to a great year of triathlon in 2011!
  • Brian McCarrie

I'll drink to that Christi!!! What are your plans for this year?

  • Christi Keiser

Brian, I am doing the OKC Memorial 1/2 Marathon and the Boulder Tri Series!  What is on your schedule?
  • Brian McCarrie

Hey Christi, I'm planning on focusing on mountain biking this year but I'd really like to do the triathlon at the Academy in the Spring, then maybe an off road tri and maybe the Boulder Peak. Good luck with your training.
  • Christi Keiser

Thanks Brian!  I hope you have a great year as well!

  • Lynne Fonda

Regarding that falconspeed.com Triathlon. Is the pool back up and ready to go? I was unaware they were going to stage it! Many thanks! I know all my athletes will be doing it, if it's available!  I'm staging a 5 week Swim Clinic beginning Jan 31st - Jan 28th to get everyone up to speed. Love to have you!

Hope everyone meets their goals this year, and remember; Train Injury Free!

  • Lynne Fonda

    AFA Triathlon:

Nope, no Tri this Spring. Pool may be finished around June; maybe! But, they are considering a Duathlon. I will be sent immediate information and will keep you all posted! They will make a decision within the month.

  • Nicole Odell

Thanks for the update on the AFA tri!
  • Lynne Fonda

The  proposed Duathlon could occur on April 30th. I will hold a clinic to train for it, beginning 8 weeks prior. Will advise.
  • alan ley

Tuesday was the last of the indoor tri series races at Colorado Springs Rec Center. Thanks to Kevin, his staff and all those that volunteered. This was a great series that was fun, affordable and good training! I hope to see more events like this in the future!
  • Mark Maloney

I have just registered for my first triathlon, the Fall Frenzy, and would really like to contact someone who has participated in that triathlon. I've tried without success to obtain a map of the bike course.and certainly would also welcome any tips. Many thanks, Mark. my email address is loftypine@comcast.net
  • Lynne Fonda

Mark, I'll check with my athletes; see what they have to say. How about State Games, right here, on July 30-31? I have an annual Tri Prep Clinic designed to train my athletes specifically for that. Begins April 9th! Contact me for details!!
  • Ty

Mark - I have participated in that tri several times.  Great tri for a first time.  My profile picture is actually from that tri run.

The bike course starts out on the trail behind the rec center heading North then transitions to the road.  There are some small hills but nothing too bad.  The portion of the bike course on the road is well controlled by the city police.

I may be doing this Tri

  • Mark Maloney

Thanks Ty. This is my 3d try at a comment as my new cat keeps running over my keyboard. I appreciate your prompt response as I plan to use this good weather and head up that way to drive the bike course (this year 12 miles) and to run the 3 miles. I have the Triple Crown, Bolder Boulder and a few other races lined up and maybe the States Games. Should be a fun filled year. Thanks again. Mark
  • Mark Maloney

Lynne Fonda. Still getting my feet wet trying to do these comments properly. Thank you for your reply. All help appreciated. Every year I say I'm going to enter the States Games and something always comes up, but maybe this year will be the year. I will keep you in mind. Please send details of your clinic.

    Many thanks. Mark

I'm putting together my racing calendar for next year.  Has anyone here done the Boulder Sunrise and Sunset combo?  What was your impression of the event(s)?

  • Lynne Fonda

So sorry Dan; we didn't include those in our calendar for this past season. Boulder is hotbed of talent; any race up there! Good luck with your training and racing season; if you' like some assistance, please contact me!

  • Nicole Odell

Hey Dan, they Boulder Sunrise/Sunset are nice races to do. Same course for the most part as the WTC-owned Boulder Sprint. Drop me a note if you have specific questions, but definitely a good local race!

  • Lynne Fonda

    Good info; thanks, Nicole!
