Nancy Hobbs aims for age-group podium at World Masters Mountain Running Championships

Nancy Hobbs of Colorado Springs finished third in the Knights' 5K Challenge on Saturday. She used the race as a tune-up for the World Masters Running Championships on Saturday (May 19) in Buhlertal, Germany. Hobbs, 51, has finished fourth in her age-group twice and hopes to make the podium this year. She is the executive director of the American Trail Running Association and a longtime running advocate in the Pikes Peak Region. Hobbs is the race director of the Paint Mines 6K Presented by Wal Mart. The Paint Mines is an El Paso County Park near Calhan, Colo. Hobbs will also serve as co-race director (with Ron Ilgen of the Triple Crown of Running) for the 2012 Pikes Peak Road Ascent, Oct. 7, a 10K from the Pikes Peak Highway toll gate to Crystal Reservoir. Augustus Maiyo sets course record in Sailin' Shoes 5K

Kenyan-born Augustus Maiyo won the Sailin' Shoes 5K Saturday, June 18, with a course-record time of 14 minutes, 47 seconds, beating Justin Chaston's old record by one second. Maiyo is stationed at Fort Carson and is training in the Army's World Class Athlete program. He is coached by Gary Staines, owner of Runner's Roost in Colorado Springs, and hopes to compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the U.S. Olympic Trials in 2012.

Army World Class Athlete Program runner Ken Foster wins Take 5 in the Garden five-mile run

Ken Foster captured the top spot in the Take 5 in the Garden 5-mile run on Saturday, blasting through the hills and sunshine in the Garden of the Gods in 27 minutes, 6.85 seconds. Foster is a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and a member of the Army’s World Class Athlete Program. His wife, Christie Foster, won the women's 5-mile race in 31:47.53.

Boulder Running Company runner and pro triathlete Michael Weiss wrapped up the top spot in the Pikes Peak Road Runners Winter Series (short course) on Saturday, winning the 10k finale in the Black Forest with a time of 33:59. Weiss placed 13th at the World Ironman Triathlon Championships in 2010. He's training in Colorado Springs and has big goals for 2011.

Tommy Manning, a teacher at Fountain Valley School of Colorado, placed 18th on Saturday in the World Mountain Running Championships in Slovenia. Manning finished third among the six runners on the U.S. men's team, which captured the silver medal.
