About 30 runners crunched some early morning gravel in the Garden of the Gods during the start of the 25-mile Ponderous Posterior trail run. The event is part of the Fat Ass Series, which includes several loosely organized trail runs along some of Colorado's best Front Range trails. Though the top finishers earned awards, the event was not officially timed.

Ultra runners from the Front Range cities of Colorado hit the foothills trails above Colorado Springs on Saturday in the Ponderous Posterior 50K, the final stop in the Fat Ass Series.

The event is a loosely organized reason for runners to get together and have fun, though bragging rights are always on the line.
The course began and ended at local runner J.T. Teisher's house on 31st Street. From there, runners hit the trails in Red Rock Canyon, then made there way to the Cheyenne Cañon area and back.

It also included an ascent of the Manitou Incline. There was plenty of beer and junk food waiting at the finish line.

It was a fantastic morning in the Garden of the Gods as a group of runners in the Ponderous Posterior 50k rolled by. The race was the finale of the four-race Fat Ass Series, a loosely organized reason for trail runners to put in some miles and hang out with friends. Some of the top ultra runners in the country participated in the event, including Scott Jurek and Anton Krupika (they are not in this video), plus 12-time Pikes Peak Marathon champ Matt Carpenter.
