The Incline, an old railway bed ascends 2,000 feet into the foothills at the base of Pikes Peak.
He could set the record for most elevation gained in 24 hours. The current known best is 37,572' by Robert Webb of Mt. Shasta, Calif. Their mission? Chart the course for the 24-Hour race. They've designed a loop of 13.5 miles. Bloesser said the course will have something for every kind of rider, including some technical pieces. But the majority of the course is fast single track. "It's just an all-around good race course for everybody," he said.
The race will also be USA Cycling's 24 Hour National Championship. Scott had had planned to hold the race at the Air Force Academy. But tightened security there forced the move to Palmer Park. He couldn't be happier. He's awaiting final approval from the city, but all systems are go.
"If it all goes through as we presented it to the park's board, this will be ground zero for the most epic 24-hour race we can possibly conjure up," Scott said. "I don't know if there has ever been a race like this in the center of a city."
