One of the best community runs on the Front Range, the July 4th Palmer Lake Fun Run begins in Palmer Lake and ends in Monument. We caught the start of the race on a perfect Colorado summer morning.

Adam Rich just missed the course record at the four-mile July 4 Fun Run at Palmer Lake on Friday. Rich, 33, of Colorado Springs, finished in 20:02, just missing the record of 19:59. Rich has had a great spring and summer. He won the Garden of the Gods 5K, then followed with a victory at the Sailin' Shoes 10K.

Adam Rich added another win to his summer of fast running. Rich, 33, of Colorado Springs, charged through the four-mile July 4 Fun Run in 22:02.3, just missing the course record of 19:59.3 set by Dan Roberts in 2011. Rich won the Garden of the Gods 5K and the Sailin' Shoes 10K earlier this year. Christie Foster won the women's race in 23:18.

Start of the Starfit Kids 5K and Fun Run

Fun event on Saturday at America the Beautiful Park as an energetic field of runners and a passel of kids participated in the StarFit Kids 5K and Fun Run.
StarfitKids is a 501c3 non profit that provides Nutrition, fitness and wellness education in elementary schools in Colorado Springs. Support of the races goes directly to program costs, and helps StarFit Kids promote their mission:to equip Children with the education they need to make healthy nutrition, and wellness choices.

Cody Hill talks about his win the 2011 Max Silver Fun Run

Cody Hill won the Max Silver Fun Run 5K on Saturday, July 9, in Colorado Springs. It was his second consecutive win there. Hill finished in 18 minutes, 8 seconds.
"We come out and do it because it supports a good cause, also for Max and his family here."
Hill said he'd return next year and try for the three-peat.
"Of course, now that's I've put that out there, somebody will probably show up," he said. "But it's always fun because I tell my daughter that if I'm winning she can run through the chute and break the tape first."
The race is a fundraiser for the Little Dipper Pool, where Max was a lifeguard, CASA of the Pikes Peak Region, and the Maxwell Silver Fund, which helps support the Southwest Writers Institute at Fort Lewis College.
