Christie Foster didn't know if she would have the speed to run a 5K. All of her training had been aimed at longer distances. But she surprised herself with a win in the 5K on St. Patrick's Day in Colorado Springs. Foster finished in 18 minutes, 3 seconds.

t's always a good day when you get to hang out with Ken and Christie Foster, the "First Couple" of running in Colorado Springs. They're being sponsored by the Mancos Project, described on the organization's website as a "broad-based project located in southwest Colorado (that) is fundamentally a running club that values the importance of maintaining a sustainable lifestyle. The core group members (including Team Earth Elite), live together, work an organic garden together, and strive to become more sustainable in their daily lives."
The Fosters won the men's and women's titles at the Knights 5K Challenge on Saturday in Palmer Park in Colorado Springs. Ken is attempting to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials 10K. Christie is is running in the Cleveland Half Marathon next week. She hopes to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Marathon Trials.

Christie Foster of Colorado Springs said she didn't even know she was in a series, but after running a couple of the Grand Prix races, she decided to go for the series championship. She hit that goal on Saturday, winning the 10K race at the Great Pumpkin Races at Venetucci Farm. Foster will race at the Chicago Marathon on Sunday, Oct. 9, in an attempt to earn an U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials bid. She needs to run 2:46 to qualify.

Christie Foster is having a great year. The 23-year-old runner from Colorado Springs won the Sailin' Shoes 10K on Saturday. Foster posted a time of 38 minutes, 19 seconds. She won the Take 5 in the Garden and placed second in her age Group (20-24) at the Garden of the Gods 10-Mile Run.

Christie Foster is used to seeing her husband, Ken, win races. On Saturday at the Taek 5 in the Garden in the Garden of the Gods, she earned some bragging rights. Foster captured the top spot in the women's five-mile run with a time of 31:47.53.
