Start of the inaugural Devil Dog 5K

Runners in the Devil Dog 5K charged into a wintry evening on Wednesday, New Year's Eve 2014, at Red Leg Brewing Company in Colorado Springs. The inaugural race was hosted by Tim Gore of the nonprofit Run with a Mission with proceeds going to Home Front Cares, which supports Colorado military families.
John Teisher and John Haney sprinted to a tie at the finish, with each clocking 21 minutes, 17 seconds. Deb Janssen won the women's race, while her good dog Laika was the first-placed four-legged runner. Janssen finished in 24:10, but said she could have gone faster. It seems Laika was distracted by the deer and rabbits along the course, then made a pit stop to pee. Priorities among runners do vary sometimes.

5K Run/Walk for Hope 2011 and Paws for a Cause Dog Walk

Video of the start of the 5K Run/Walk for Hope 2011 and Paws for a Cause Dog Walk at the Flying Horse Barefoot Park. The race was a fundraiser for the Salvation Army and an excellent community event that included helicopter rides, face painting, a kids' fun run and good food from Chick-fil-A. About 160 runners tangled with the 5K course.
Caleb Welz, 17, who runs at The Classical Academy, was quickest with a time of 19:20. Ian O'Brien, 17, placed second in 19:25, followed by Jacob Huisingh, 16, at 19:38.
Jenna Press, 17, won the women's race with a time of 22:17. She was followed by Brianne Hoglin, 14, in 23:04 and Meg Rudy, 19, in 24:06.

National Mill Dog Rescue Ruff Life Freedom 5K Run/Walk

This is the start of the National Mill Dog Rescue Ruff Life Freedom 5K Run/Walk, June 11 in Colorado Springs. The event is a fundraiser for Mill Dog Rescue, a nonprofit that works to save adult dogs from puppy mills and place the animals in a loving, permanent home. The racing was excellent with several area high school runners turning in the top times.

100 nights with the Jack Quinn's Running Club

Bern "Dog" Hessemer received his long-sleeved black shirt for completing 100 runs with the Jack Quinn's Running Club on Tuesday. Somebody said the math shakes out like this: 100 runs, 310 miles and 600 beers! Hessemer is a fixture in the Colorado Springs running community, volunteering for races and helping where needed. Everybody at Quinn's wanted to take a photo with him...or buy him a beer. He's probably still there.
