Hams and Hamstrings 5K: BRC's Shannon Payne wins women's race, Cody Hill second among men

Boulder Running Company/adidas runner Shannon Payne won the women's race in the inaugural Hams and Hamstrings 5K Sunday in Colorado Springs. Payne, 26, of Franktown, covered a tough course in 18:57.7. Cody Hill, 39, of Colorado Springs, the owner and manager of the Boulder Running Company Colorado Springs store and manager the BRC/adidas team, clocked 18:12.4 to place second in the men's race.
Julian Wheating, 22, of Denver, won the men's race in 17:52.8. Ronnie Archuleta of Colorado Springs finished third (18:51.4).
Colorado Running Company runner Connilee Walter (20:14.2) was second among the women. CM Butler was third in 20:25.5.

Cody Hill won the Max Silver Fun Run 5K on Saturday, July 9, in Colorado Springs. It was his second consecutive win there. Hill finished in 18 minutes, 8 seconds.
"We come out and do it because it supports a good cause, also for Max and his family here."
Hill said he'd return next year and try for the three-peat.
"Of course, now that's I've put that out there, somebody will probably show up," he said. "But it's always fun because I tell my daughter that if I'm winning she can run through the chute and break the tape first."
The race is a fundraiser for the Little Dipper Pool, where Max was a lifeguard, CASA of the Pikes Peak Region, and the Maxwell Silver Fund, which helps support the Southwest Writers Institute at Fort Lewis College.

Casey Powell won the Max Silver Fun Run for the fourth time. She is the only woman to have won the race in its four-year history. Powell was a cross country teammate of Max Silver at Cheyenne Mountain High School. The race is a fundraiser for the Little Dipper Pool, where Max was a lifeguard, CASA of the Pikes Peak Region, and the Maxwell Silver Fund, which helps support the Southwest Writers Institute at Fort Lewis College.
