Kenyan-born Jared Abuya of Colorado Springs captured the top spot and $150 in prize money in Sunday's Double 5K. Abuya, running for Boulder Running Company/Adidas, Abuya clocked 14:57 in the first race on a course that was about 500 meters short. He finished in 16:30 in the seconds race.
Winners were determined by overall time. His BRC/Adidas teammate, Adam Rich, of Colorado Springs, was second with a combined time of 31:42. Rich won $100. Carl Arnold's 34:16 total was good for third place and $50.
In the women's race, Iowa resident Traci Kresser will have a cool story to tell her friends when she returns from her Colorado vacation. Kresser, 26, of Clive, Iowa, blasted the field in both races to take the top prize money. She finished with a combined 39:26. Kayli Tabares, 12, of Colorado Springs, was second in 41:41, followed by Caroline Ratterree, 23, Colorado Springs, in 42:26.

The Amputees Across America cyclist stopped at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Colorado Springs on Monday. Doc Milligan took a few minutes to talk about the ride and the mission to encourage amputees and other people with debilitating illnesses to live life to the fullest.
