Start of the Big Mountain Adventure Racing's America's Mountain 24-hour event

A group of about 50 brave souls started the 24-hour America's Mountain Adventure Race Friday evening in Green Mountain Falls. The racers will travel through the night by foot and bike, with the route taking them nearly to Cripple Creek and back, They stop at check points along the way as proof that they completed the route.
The fastest racers should complete the distance in about 18 hours, but many will take a full day or more.
There will be shorter adventure races beginning on Saturday. All will finish at the lake at Green Mountain Falls.

5K start at the Big Mountain Trail Run

This is the start of the Big Mountain Trail Run 5K on Saturday, April 21, in Cheyenne Cañon. Kristin Kulver, 23, of Colorado Springs, won the women's race in 32:51. Andrea Vinson (32, Colorado Springs) finished second in 33:27, followed by Leah Johnson (32, Colorado Springs) in 33:39.
Tyler King, 27, of Colorado Springs, won the men's race in 25:49. Kyle Kirby, 21 of Spokane, Wash., was second in 26:13, followed by Rick Buckley (40, Colorado Springs) in 26:23.

Start of the Big Big Mountain Trail Run 10K

Congratulations to the Boulder Running Company's Kevin Morgan, 24, of Colorado Springs, and Barb Erxleben, 42, of Dubuque, Iowa, winners of the inaugural Big Mountain Trail Run 10K on Saturday, April 21, in Cheyenne Canon in Colorado Springs. Morgan, who runs for the Boulder Running Company, covered the course in 39 minutes, 47 seconds. Erxleben finished in 51:05.
Shannon McGuire, 37, of Colorado Springs, clocked 56:31 and was second in the women's race. Reilly Desantis, 29, of Breckenridge, was third in 57:33.
Kevin Miller, 41, of Woodland Park, was second in the men's race with a 48:08, followed by Chris Lee, 37, of Colorado Springs.

Start of the Big Mountain Trail Run Half Marathon

Here is a good look at the start of the inaugural Big Mountain Trail Run Half Marathon start.
The Boulder Running Company's Greg Reindl, 27, of Denver, charged to the win in on Saturday in Cheyenne Cañon . Reindl chased Tommy Manning, 36, for the first five miles as the course ascended some steep pitches, then made his move on a descent of High Drive.
"I just used my long strides to get by him," Reindl said. "On the trails I'm better on the downhills than I am going up."
Reindl, who said he prefers road racing (5K and 10K) to trails, finished in 1 hour, 22 minutes, 52 seconds. The Colorado Running Company/Inov-8 duo of Manning and Peter Maksimow, 33, ran home in second and third places respectively. Manny posted a 1:24:19 with Maksmow crossing the line 1:25:28.
In the women's race. Amy Friedman, 36, took her second victory on the trails in as many weeks. She won Saturday's half marathon in 1:38:30, with Kelli Lusk, 42, clocking 1:46:46 for second place. Katie Katalan, 42, finished third in 2:03:38. Friedman, who teaches overseas, claimed the XTERRA 24K title at Cheyenne Mountain State Park last week.
