Start of the Leadville Trail 100

The runners in the 2015 Leadville Trail 100 were up and running before the rooster crowed in the old mining town high in Colorado's Rocky Mountains on Saturday, Aug. 22. Nearly 800 lined up on 6th St. for the legendary shotgun start, then trotted into the night. The fastest men will finish in about 16-to-17 hours. The top women will make it back to Leadville in about 19 hours. The overall race record is held by Matt Carpenter of Manitou Springs, who in 2005 became the first runner to finish in daylight. He clocked 15 hours, 42 minutes, 59 seconds.
This is a lot like Christmas morning for mountain/ultra/trail runners.

Tim Barry was so torn up by the Leadville Trail 100 that he had to walk backward for a while because "moving forward was impossible." Barry finished in under 30 hours and was one of only 362 out of 800 who finished the race.

Geoff Roes and Anton Krupicka took questions form the audience following the premire showing of "Unbreakable: The Western States 100" on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Stargazers Theatre in Colorado Springs. The film follows the footsteps of four extraordinary athletes, including Krupicka and Roes of Boulder, as they prepare for the 2010 race and the daunting challenge of running 100 miles across the Sierra Nevada, some of the most rugged country in the western United States. Roes won the record time of 15:07:04. Krupicka was second in 15:13:52. The event was a fundraiser for the Incline Friends, the nonprofit organization working to help make the Manitou Incline legal to climb.

Colorado Springs pro rider Kalan Beisel thrilled with Top 15 finish at Leadville 100

Kalan Beisel said there were times when he could barely turn the pedals in granny gear during the Leadville Trail 100 MTB race. But he was pleased with the result. Beisel had a goal of beating seven hours over the high-altitude century - and he did it, riding to the finish in downtown Leadville in 6 hours, 58 minutes, 20 seconds. He was 13th overall and ninth in the 30-39 age group.
