University of Colorado-Colorado Springs senior Kait Friar, 22, captured the women's race in the Panerathon 5K to Stop Hunger on Saturday with a time of 19 minutes, 54 seconds.
"I'm happy with the time," she said. "I went out fast, so the last two miles weren't as good as the first."
Frier, a Lewis-Palmer High School graduate, said her main goal is to break 18 minutes in the 5K during the track season.
"My PR is 18:16, so I'd really like to get under 18 minutes," she said. "Track is really more my thing."
Before then, she'll do whatever she can to help fer UCCS cross country teammates.
"For cross country, my goal is really just to do my best and show up for my team," she said.
Carly Moore was second in 21:05, followed by 10-year-old Alliana Hamilton (22:17), Sarah Mize (15, 22:23) and Gina Barringer (22, 22:42).

In the women's 10K, Julie Lother, 35, of Hudson, Wisconsin, took the win with a time of 46:21.
"This is awesome," Lother said. "We got here yesterday. We just started our vacation and I won a race. I got my whole family to enter."
Kelly Phillips placed second (39, 47:16), followed by Georgann Richardson (55, 49:34), Caitlan Herrera (14, 51:20) and Brenda Ramlo (45, 51:34).
In the men's 10K, Gerald Romero, 38, took the win in 36:29. Romero who has ran in a race almost every weekend this year, is getting ready for Saturday's Pikes Peak Ascent.
"I needed just one more tempo run and then start to taper," he said. "It's been a great year. I started with the Rescue Run (on Jan. 1) and just kept going."
Romero placed ninth in the Pikes Peak Ascent last year with a time of 2:32.
Jeff Gifford, 37, placed second in the Panerathon 10K with a time of 40:05. He was followed by Jeffrey Cordial (23, 44:23), Cody ott (21, 47:26) and Douglas Corey (48, 48:24).
